Victoria, we thank you. During a time of great suffering for so many, you all came together and helped us help those who were struggling. Your support for your fellow Victorians during this very difficult time was unwavering and driven by love. As we come closer to what we hope is finally the end of lockdown we want to thank you once again. We could NOT have done this without you. We’re a small unfunded grass roots charity helping thousands of people on the back of absolutely nothing except your support. You did this, Victoria 💕 Thank you so much […]

Thank you all so very much. I have no words. To win this award and be named as Victorian Australian of the Year is such an incredible honour and it really is on behalf of all of you who have helped along the way. Awareness is nothing without action, and I could never have gotten this far without your support. Thank you so much to all of you who have stood by me, listened to me, trusted me and and pitched in to help in any way. I am so proud to accept this award on behalf of all of […]

What an incredible, surreal and absolutely amazing day. This morning I sat on a zoom call with 16 strangers. We have all been nominated for an award from the Australia Day Council. Myself and three others in the meeting have the honour of being Australian the Year 2021 finalist for Victoria. What an absolutely incredible honour. It was surreal and exciting being in on this zoom meeting. Indeed a once in a life time experience that I will never forget. For me though, the most unforgettable part of the zoom was meeting the most incredible people who are all doing […]

We’re a charity supporting all people experiencing homelessness, domestic abuse and disadvantage. And we support people in almost all areas of life. Included in that support is personal hygiene items. It is absolutely crucial that every person experiencing homelessness or disadvantage has access to personal hygiene items. During the pandemic lockdown we twice ran out of absolutely everything, but we managed to re stock, well, almost. We still struggle to get toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant. Perhaps when we think of personal hygiene we automatically go straight to soap, or shampoo. Our minds think ‘clean’ and it’s soap with all its […]

Go to @AustralianoftheYear on Facebook at 6.30pm (AEDT) Thank you to everyone who nominated me. Please make sure you’re watching the 2021 […]

It is an incredible honour to lead a charity that provides instant and uncomplicated relief to Victorian people struggling through the coronavirus pandemic. Since April this year we have been able to provide thousands of essential items to those in lockdown. National Homeless Collective was founded almost six years ago, born from a vision that one day in the future everyone who needed help would receive help. Despite remaining unfunded we continue to find innovative ways to acquire essential goods and support which we pass directly to those in need. This is only possible because of the vast and ongoing […]

“They’re laughing at the pumpkin,” said Lily. I was confused. I’d just dropped off a huge box of fruits and vegetables to Lily and her two little girls who were squealing excitedly at the large half a pumpkin in the box. “They love pumpkin,” said Lily. But she went on to explain that pumpkin was something she rarely ever bought. I tried to think of why but nothing came to me. “It’s too heavy,” Lily told me, “I can’t carry it home.” Then I remembered. Lily was a single parent and she didn’t have a car. She had to get […]

Another huge day at our HQ, The Kala Space. We sent around 70 play bags for tots, teens and adults off to our friends over at drummond street services to help keep kids and families busy in lockdown. We’ve been receiving feedback that the play bags are hugely popular with the kids and have done a lot to help keep little ones occupied during very tough times. Thank you so very much to everyone who has donated. You have no idea what a huge difference this has made to hundreds of little people who has to stay inside during lockdown. […]
