Knitters and crafty crochet folk we need you! Each week we give out Winter Warmer bags with warm winter clothing including beanies, scarves and gloves/mittens. Unfortunately even though it has only just hit winter, we have already run out of stock for our next lot of bags. Melbourne’s lockdown is continuing and this morning we gave away the very last of our Period Packs and our last toiletries pack. We are desperate to get more out there for the thousands of people affected by lockdown and subsequent job loss. Last year we raised over $50,000 to help those affected by the lockdown and every cent went to support those who were isolated or had suffered job losses. This man was so unwell from hypothermia we had to call him an ambulance. We hate having to share these photos but this is the reality of the work we do. This is the life of the people we help. Discarded, broken and forgotten. People freezing and cast aside. People calling the streets home where the pavement is their bed. We sent a van load of toiletries, underwear, sleeping bags and sanitary items off to CoHealth Innerspace in Collingwood yesterday. 20 sleeping bags, 40 toiletries packs, 60 bottles of shampoo and conditioner and a six dozen pairs of new underwear will all be heading out to people experiencing homelessness and hardship around Melboune. A huge thank you to everyone who donates to us and to our fantastic volunteers for putting app of these packs together. We couldn’t do it without you.
Today we delivered 27 warm life saving sleeping bags to another charity that helps people sleeping rough. No one charity can do everything on its own. We do a lot and we’re proud of our work but we can’t meet all the needs of all the people all the time. This is why collaboration with other charities is important. We managed to do quite a bit during our 2018 drive at Sleeping Bags For Homelessness. Over 2100 life saving sleeping bags delivered across the country. A huge thank you to everyone who helped us out. We’ll be collecting again in April 2019!
OK people! We can FINALLY announce our exciting news! We’re expanding into Brunswick East and we just couldn’t be happier! We’re opening a combined Op Shop, meditation den, community space with life connection workshop programs that will benefit everyone in the community but most of all our most vulnerable. But we need YOU to help us get her ready for our grand opening in Summer! We desperately need tradies and tools.
