Sisters in Safe Housing (SiS Housing) is a new initiative helping women and their families start a life free from domestic violence and abuse as well as connecting mature-aged women with suitable housing. What is SiS Housing?
SiS Housing, launched by National Homeless Collective, is a community funded housing support service providing immediate rent and bond financial assistance to women and families escaping domestic violence and abuse. We’ll also be assisting mature aged women with limited housing options.
SiS helps to secure safe housing, so women and families aren’t forced to live in temporary accommodation, in their cars, or crammed in a single room motel. It’s the difference between being able to safely leave a violent home and not risk further harm or even death. How does it work?
SiS is a payback loan that provides immediate financial support to secure a safe new home. Women and their families can then pay back the loan over time, without interest, at a pace that’s suitable for them. How is it different?
Many similar schemes take up to six weeks to be granted to the people who need them. For many women, leaving is a matter of life and death and six weeks is six weeks too long. SiS Housing provides support the next day, so women can secure their housing straight away. How can you help?
Thanks to a generous loan from ANZ Australia and money fundraised from National Homeless Collective, the administration fees for SiS are covered.
But we need your ongoing support to help provide more safe houses to women who need them. Every dollar donated goes directly to women and their families starting a new, safe life. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
