Sleeping Bags From Us 2 You

Today we delivered 27 warm life saving sleeping bags to another charity that helps people sleeping rough.

No one charity can do everything on its own. We do a lot and we’re proud of our work but we can’t meet all the needs of all the people all the time. This is why collaboration with other charities is important.

A huge part of being your best as a charity is understanding not only what else needs to be done but also what else is currently being done, and working with those groups to ensure a better experience for those in need.

One thing we have never done as a charity is street feeds. We don’t need to. There are many wonderful groups out there doing incredible work feeding people on the street with healthy home cooked meals. One of those people is Deb Henry who is the founder of a group called From Us 2 You Melboune.

Deb and her team work tirelessly to ensure people sleeping rough have a warm healthy meal twice a week every week, with other groups doing their share on the nights Deb isn’t there. Each night they’re out there on the street Deb and her team have prepared many varied dishes plus desserts, side dishes, take away and many snacks for the people to take with them. Their menu is amazing.

But it’s not just the food, it’s the love, conversation and regular contact the people enjoy the most. Deb said to me today, “During covid lockdown sometimes only 25 people turn up. But that’s still 25 people who have a warm meal and a chat. It’s 25 people who come because they’re waiting for that connection.”

So, rain hail or shine Deb is there, food on hand, friendship, a chat and a friendly face at the ready. We have been proud to know and support this incredible group for a few years now.

Please give a round of applause and a huge thank you to Deb and her incredible team for all the work they do 👏👏👏

Tue Jul 14 , 2020
I know the photos are starting to look a bit repetitious but we’re so proud to be able to do this. Another 1040 nappies and 58 tins of baby formula for the tower residents in Collingwood. We’re also sending in boxes of sanitary items and toiletries. This is all because of your wonderful support and generosity. Covid restrictions are hurting many people. Jobs have been lost, not everyone is eligible for jobkeeper payment and some families who relied on that few hours casual work each week to get through are now finding it hard to manage. One thing is for […]
